The first T20I of the three-match series will be played in Kingsmead, Durban, on Sunday. The limited-overs leg of the tour will also see the visitors playing an ODI series of three mathes, before the tour moves to the red-ball leg for a series of two Tests.
In the absence of T20 captain Hardik Pandya, who is recovering from an ankle injury, Surya will lead India in T20Is, while KL Rahul will take over the role of captain in ODIs.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma both excused themselves from the limited-over matches in South Africa.
Rohit, along with Virat, will return to lead India in the Test series.
