JAMMU: Three Army personnel were injured in a landmine explosion near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Wednesday, officials said.
During a routine patrolling exercise in a forward area in Poonch’s Mendhar sector, a strayed landmine was activated when one of the personnel inadvertently stepped on it, resulting in injuries to three troopers, said Army sources.
“The injured were immediately evacuated to a nearby medical facility. Later, two of them were referred to Military Hospital, Rajouri, for specialised treatment where their condition was stated as normal,” said a source.
Pertinently, as part of an anti-infiltration/border security grid, areas along the LoC are dotted with landmines which sometimes get washed away in rain leading to such freak accidents.
On September 2, an Army porter and his horse were injured in a similar landmine explosion along the LoC in Poonch’s Sawjiyan sector.
