The carnage continues on South Australian roads with a second death in just two days.
The police have confirmed a man died in a crash at Moppa, about 80km northeast of Adelaide, just before 10.30am on Tuesday.
Emergency services raced to the intersection of Moppa Rd and Golf Course Rd after reports a car left the road and crashed into a tree.
The driver and sole occupant of the Mitsubishi station wagon, a 74-year-old man from Lewiston, died at the scene.
The man’s death is the 98th life lost on South Australia’s roads in 2023 compared with 61 from the same period last year.
The man’s death comes just two days after 45-year-old father-of-two Brad Thompson was killed in a collision with a Mazda in Adelaide’s northern suburbs.
Mr Thompson, who worked at Adelaide Zoo as a security officer, was riding his Kawasaki motorbike home from work.
The crash happened at the intersection of Elizabeth Way and Philip Highway in Elizabeth about 8.15pm on Sunday.
The driver of the Mazda, Christopher Bennett, 29, has been arrested and charged with aggravated driving without due car and driving disqualified,
He made an emotional statement to Mr Thompson’s family at Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday.
“I would just like you guys to know how devastated I am and how much I’m feeling for you guys. It’s just a tragedy,” he said.
“I wish there was something more that I could do for him, I truly do.”
