NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed deep appreciation for the workers who have been rescued from the collapsed Silkyara tunnel in Uttarakhand and said the success of the operation is an “emotional moment”.
The Prime Minister hailed the courage shown by the trapped workers and congratulated teams for the successful rescue operation.
“The success of the rescue operation of our labour brothers in Uttarkashi is making everyone emotional. I want to say to the friends who were trapped in the tunnel that your courage and patience is inspiring everyone. I wish you all well and good health,” PM Modi said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“It is a matter of great satisfaction that after a long wait these friends of ours will now meet their loved ones. The patience and courage that all these families have shown in this challenging time cannot be appreciated enough,” he added.

The workers got trapped on the day of Diwali (November 12) when part of an under-construction tunnel (Silkyara) collapsed in Uttarakhand.

“I also salute the spirit of all the people associated with this rescue operation. Their bravery and determination have given new life to our labour brothers. Everyone involved in this mission has set an amazing example of humanity and teamwork,” PM Modi said.
A 41-bed hospital has been readied at the Community Health Centre in Chinyalisaur for medical examination and care of the trapped workers. Rescue teams said the workers would go through a detailed medical examination.
After completing the rescue operations, the focus will shift to conducting comprehensive investigations to identify construction shortcomings, an official said.
