AYODHYA: Which of the three Ram Lalla’s idols already sculpted at three different locations in Ayodhya has finally been selected to be installed at the sanctum sanctorum of the newly built temple? The suspense is likely to last for a few days more. A common man, however, is likely to have a glimpse of the selected idol when it is taken for a nagar yatra as part of the seven-day ‘pran pratishtha’ rituals between January 16 and 22.
“Members of the temple trust — Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra — deliberated on the selection on Friday, but a final decision is yet to be made,” said a source, adding “the selection of the idol would remain a secret. Other than those involved by the trust, nobody would get to see or know about the selected idol,” says a source.
The selection would be made by members of the trust through majority vote. “Outsiders do not have any role to play. They can only give opinion but the final decision would be taken by trust members only,” he says, adding “but the decision will not be made public.”Another source says that after the selection is made, it will take three to four days to place it permanently on the throne, install suitable light fixtures that would complement the aura of the sanctum sanctorum, give the final finishing touch on the grooves, fittings and material that would be used to place the idol to blend with the background.
The selection process has to be completed before January 16 after which the idol would be unveiled before seers, saints and priests when the procedure for the consecration rituals starts. However, sharing photographs or videos of the idol would be strictly prohibited for them.
While selection remains a suspense, what is confirmed is that the idol will depict Lord Ram at the age of four to five years, and will be 51-inch tall (4.25 feet). Out of three idols, two have been carved out of the stones brought from Karnataka while the third one has been made through the makrana marble from Rajasthan.
