HYDERABAD: Heavy rains were not a deterrent for a teacher in Kumuram Bheem Asifabad district as he safely carried students on his shoulders through a flowing stream to their village after school hours.
As it had been raining, water level in the stream rose considerably at Jaihindpur in Penchikalpet village. On Thursday, 26 children came to the school in the morning after having walked through a small stream. However, towards evening, there was increased flow in the stream, which made it difficult for the children to go back to their village.
Primary school teacher, Santosh, did not want to let students cross on their own. He carried 10 students one by one through the stream and sent them home safely. Some villagers also assisted the teacher. While students and parents were appreciative of the teacher, they also demanded a bridge be constructed across the stream for the safety of students. The village, which lacks proper road connectivity, has a population of 250 people and 30 students study in the govt school.
