HYDERABAD: The proposed pre-poll alliance between Congress and two Left parties is on shaky ground, with CPM state secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram making it clear on Wednesday that they would go alone in the assembly polls if the grand old party did not honour its commitment on Wyra and Miryalaguda seats. CPM has given Congress till 3pm Thursday to decide, while CPI has decided to wait for two days, or till the Congress final list.
Sharing briefly the details of the CPM state committee meeting held here, Tammineni said they had actually also sought the Palair and Bhadrachalam seats but compromised when Congress expressed its inability. The meeting decided not to compromise further and stick to its stand of seeking Wyra and Miryalaguda seats. If this does not happen, CPM will take a decision on fielding candidates from constituencies where it has a good presence.
“Congress Legislature Party leader Bhatti Vikramarka called me in the morning (Wednesday) and said Congress was not able to finalise the seats to be given to CPM as Rahul Gandhi was touring Telangana. He urged us to not take a decision in haste and that Congress would inform us about its decision on Thursday. We will wait till 3pm on Thursday for the Congress decision and announce our strategy after that,” he said.
After the CPI state executive meeting here, party national secretary K Narayana said: “Congress has offered us Kothagudem and Chennur seats so we will wait for its final list to see whether we are allotted our seats.”
Though CPI urged ally CPM to wait two days, CPM has stuck to its Thursday deadline. However, Tammineni said CPM will not field candidates against CPI even if they fought the November 30 polls alone.
The Congress leadership is under tremendous pressure not to ally with CPI and CPM.
