CHENNAI: Three deaf and dumb children were run over by a suburban train near Vandalur on the outskirts of Chennai on Monday while they were playing on a railway track.
The deceased have been identified as Manjunath, 11, Ravi, 12, and Suresh, 14. They hailed from Hubli in Karnataka.
While Suresh and Ravi are sons of Jambiah, Manjunath is the son of Hanumanth. Their parents, who were employed in a car seat manufacturing unit, stayed at Urappakkam. The children came to Chennai a few days ago since it was Dussehra holidays for them.
The accident happened around noon on Monday. The trio were playing on the railway track between Vandalur and Urappakkam when an EMU from Chennai Beach going to Chengalpet reached there. The loco pilot noticed the children playing and honked to alert them. But the children didn’t hear it as they were hearing impaired. They died on the spot.
