BATHINDA: Days after the Parliamentary elections came to an end and the protests at Punjab-Haryana borders complete almost four months, a delegation of Trinamool Congress comprising five MPs visited the protesting farmers at Khanauri-Data Singh Wala Punjab-Haryana border on Monday.

TMC showed solidarity with the protesting farmers, who are demanding legal guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) as per C2+50%, and assured them of raising their issues in the upcoming session of the Parliament.

The MPs said that TMC leader Mamata Banerjee is highly concerned about the issues of the farmers for which they have to repeatedly take to roads. The MPs listened to their grievances before promising them that they would press the central government to accept these demands.

Rajya Sabha member Sagarika Ghose said, “We 5 MPs visited Khanauri border to meet protesting farmers. Our leader Mamata spoke to the farm leaders via phone to assure them of our support. AITC will fight shoulder to shoulder with the Annadaata for their demands and for justice to farmers.”

“Mamata Banerjee is very close to Kisan Andolan, she went on hunger strike for 26 days in 2006 to protest against land acquisition in Singur. TMC was the first party to establish contact with the farm Andolan in 2020-21. We will raise the issues of the farmers in Parliament and at every available forum. We are always standing with India’s Annadatas,” she added.

Farmer forum SKM (non-political) leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal said that they have been sitting on protests at Punjab-Haryana borders for almost four months but the central government gave no heed to their demands of legal right of MSP as per Swaminathan Commission recommendations.
