NEW DELHI: Former deputy chief minister of Bihar and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday reacted to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s remarks over the prolonged violence in Manipur and said that his statement has come ‘late’.
“The Prime Minister has always been silent, whether it’s about the Manipur incident, the attack on our farmer brothers, or the harassment of our gold medalist wrestlers.In Bangalore, 3000 women were being harassed, and the Prime Minister remained silent. He (Mohan Bhagwat) spoke but it’s late,” Yadav said.
The RJD leader’s reaction came after RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat expressed concern over the situation in Manipur for the past one year.
“Manipur is waiting for peace for the last one year. There was peace in Manipur 10 years ago. It felt like gun culture had finished there. But the state has suddenly seen violence. The situation in Manipur will have to be considered with priority. There is need to get over election rhetoric and focus on problems facing the nation,” Bhagwat said.
Meanwhile, Tejashwi also demanded the Union goevernment to grant special status to Bihar and conduct a nationwide caste-based census.
“The cabinet has been expanded, the government has been formed, and 30 MPs have gone from Bihar, whereas previously 39 had gone, but nothing was achievedThis time, we are fully hopeful and expect that Bihar, being in a decisive role in the formation of the government, should at least be granted special state status,” he said.
“We had increased the reservation to 75 percent, and we demand a caste-based census nationwide. At least this much should be done. With around 67 ministers from Bihar, it is expected that they should raise their voices for Bihar,” he added.
