NEW DELHI: In a hypothetical head-to-head matchup ahead of next year’s presidential polls, President Joe Biden‘s approval rating dipped to a record low, even as he trails his top rival Donald Trump by four points.
In a new poll carried out by Wall Street Journal, it was found that 37 per cent of respondents were affirmative of Biden‘s role as president, while 61 per cent of respondents disapproved of Biden’s presidency.
On a potential Biden-Trump 2024 rematch, 47 percent of respondents said they will vote for Trump, while 43 percent of those surveyed said they will pick Biden.
Further, 37% of the respondents said they would vote for Trump if the 2024 election were held today. Meanwhile, only 31% said they would vote for Biden.
At least 49 per cent of participants indicated that policies implemented by Trump have personally benefited them, whereas 37 per cent felt adversely affected by these measures.
In contrast, 53 per cent expressed that policies implemented by Biden have had a negative impact on them, while 23 per cent believed they have been beneficial, as per the survey results.
The poll comes at a time when, despite facing numerous legal challenges, Trump, 77, continues to be perceived as the primary frontrunner in the GOP presidential race.
President Biden,81, the oldest in US history to occupy the White House, has faced multiple questions regarding his age, with calls for him to resign after completing his term.
Despite the age concern, Biden has vehemently rejected such suggestions, asserting he remains the most formidable candidate to challenge and defeat Trump.
The survey, involving 1,500 registered voters, took place between November 29 and December 4, utilizing a combination of cellphone, landline, and text-to-web methodologies. The margin of error for the poll was reported as plus-or-minus 2.5 percentage points.
