A man has been charged for an alleged tomahawk attack which occurred at a popular regional shopping centre earlier this month and left a 25-year-old man with injuries to his face.
Emergency services were called to Tweed City shopping centre on Minjungbal Dr, Tweed Heads South at about 3.30pm on July 11, where they found the injured man.
He was treated by NSW paramedics and taken to Gold Coast University Hospital, and reportedly required surgery due to a laceration near his right eye.
Police also seized a tomahawk at the scene for forensic examination.
Following weeks of investigations a 23-year-old man was arrested at Tweed Heads Police Station at about 3pm on Tuesday.
He’s now been charged with reckless wounding in company, and has been refused bail to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court on Wednesday.
At the time police were told several people were allegedly involved in the altercation, however they had allegedly fled the scene sparking a lengthy manhunt.
NSW Police said inquiries are ongoing and called for anyone who witnessed the alleged attack, or who may have footage of the incident to contact local police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
