The unit of Udaariyaan gathered on the set in Chandigarh for their routine shoot today, but it suddenly came to a halt in the afternoon when a group of Sikhs arrived, allegedly objecting to the inappropriate use of a made-up gurudwara on the set. The commotion caused most of the unit members to flee. The shoot of another show under the same production house on the premises was also affected. The incident allegedly occurred after the group was informed about individuals walking in shoes on the set’s replica gurudwara.
A source associated with Udaariyaan informed us, “We had created a gurudwara on the set, and a temporary member of the unit recorded a video showing someone walking on the sets in shoes. This upset a sect of Sikhs, who showed up at the shoot. They questioned us about walking in shoes and disrespecting their religious practices and beliefs. While we have never intended any disrespect, the agitation left us with no choice but to vacate the set to prevent any further incidents.”
Producers Sargun Mehta and Ravi Dubey remained unavailable for comment. We also tried reaching out to the show’s male lead Avinesh Rekhi, who witnessed the incident, but he didn’t respond to our calls.
The channel issued a statement to us, stating, “We are committed to producing content that respects all cultures and religions. We ensure that all representations in our productions are carried out with the utmost care and respect for the communities we portray. The set of Udaariyaan was designed as an artificial construct for the purpose of the show and did not contain any real religious place of worship or articles.”
