A man has been charged with murder after a man’s body was found covered in stab wounds in a car in the carpark of a local NSW surf club.
Police were called to the Ocean Beach Surf Life Saving Club near Umina Beach on the NSW Central Coast about 3.15am on Monday, where they found the body of the 40-year-old man.
On Wednesday, detectives from Brisbane Water Police District charged the 30-year-old man, a Umina Beach local, with one count of murder.
He has been refused bail and will appear at Gosford Local Court on Thursday.
The 30-year-old man was arrested on Monday at about 7.30am, and taken to hospital where he underwent surgery for a hand injury.
Brisbane Water Police District crime manager Detective Inspector Paul Laksa said initial investigations revealed the man was known to the dead man.
Although Detective Laksa couldn’t confirm whether it was a “random attack,” he told reporters the close-knit beach community shouldn’t feel alarmed for their welfare.
