DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand cabinet on Saturday gave its nod to 16 proposals, which included a new film policy 2024 for the Himalayan state, but the issue of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) was not discussed.
According to sources, another cabinet meeting is scheduled on the morning of Feb 6 and on the same day, the Bill on UCC will be tabled in the state assembly.The cabinet is also likely to pass UCC on the same day.
Notably, a five-member panel had handed over the UCC draft to CM Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday after which the govt’s legal team has been involved in studying the panel’s recommendations.
Meanwhile, among the proposals to which the cabinet gave its nod include the new film policy, under which the maximum subsidy has been raised from Rs 1.5 crore to Rs 3 crore (up to 30% of the amount spent in the state) for movies made in Hindi and other recognised languages. Subsidy for Garhwali and Kumaoni movies has been raised eight times from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 2 crore (maximum of 50% amount spent in the state). For the first time, web series made for OTT platforms and TV serials would also be given a subsidy on lines of the movies.
However, to avail the benefits, the web series need to be of a minimum of five episodes of 30 minutes each and the TV serials should be of a minimum of 20 episodes of 22 minutes each.
On films for children, the state would give an additional grant of 10%. For international films and movies with a budget in excess of Rs 50 crore – to be spent in the state – a maximum subsidy of 30% or up to Rs 3 crore would be given to filmmakers.
