Police have charged a “parcel pest” over a series of post office burglaries across Melbourne’s west, where almost $10,000 worth of packages were allegedly nicked.
It is alleged the 30-year-old man broke into two post offices in Werribee and Point Cook five times between September and October this year.
Police allege the contents of the stolen parcels – worth almost $10,000 – were then sold overseas.
The man was arrested on Monday during a search of his Werribee home and was charged with five counts of burglary and possessing a drug of dependence.
He will appear before the Sunshine Magistrates’ Court on December 7.
The arrest of the “parcel pest” comes as a further six people were taken into custody across the city.
Detectives from the Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit carried out three more search warrants in Werribee and Hoppers Crossing, following an investigation into the parcel thefts.
Four people, aged between 28 and 55, were arrested on a range of unrelated matters including outstanding warrants for different burglaries.
A fifth man was released pending summons for firearm and drug-related offending, while another man was cautioned for cannabis possession.
Anyone with information about criminal activity related to the parcel thefts or other arrests are urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
