NEW DELHI: Three people were rescued from a submerged vehicle due to heavy rains in Madurai on Sunday. The region experienced significant rainfall on Friday and Saturday, leading to waterlogging and overflowing waterbodies.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) initially issued an orange alert for coastal areas like Kanyakumari and Tuticorin but later downgraded it to yellow for South Tamil Nadu districts over the next two days.

The IMD predicts heavy rain in isolated areas in Dindigul, Theni, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Sivaganga, and Ramanathapuram on Sunday, with yellow alerts remaining in effect.
The IMD forecasted, “Squally weather with wind speeds of 35-45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph,” for the South Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar, and Comorin region. Fishermen have been advised to avoid these areas during this period.
