In a retaliatory attack, the Israeli forces on Saturday launched strikes against three military targets in the provinces of Iran — namely Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam.
Iran’s military confirmed the attack and said that their air defence systems in central Tehran had successfully intercepted hostile projectiles in the airspace around Tehran province, according to the Irna State news agency.
“The first footage published online shows the air defense systems successfully intercepting hostile projectiles over Tehran Province,” Iran military said in a post on X.
Iran’s military said that Israeli strikes on the country targeted military bases in Ilam, Khuzestan and Tehran provinces has caused the “limited damage.”
Iran is prepared to respond to any Israeli “aggression”, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency said citing sources.
“There is no doubt that Israel will face a proportional reaction for any action it takes,” Tasnim quoted the sources as saying.
What happened?
On Saturday morning, Israel Defence Forces (IDF) announced that its military had conducted “precise strikes” on Iranian military targets, around a month after Tehran launched around 200 ballistic missiles towards Israel.
“Right now, the IDF is conducting precise strikes on military targets in Iran,” Israeli army spokesman Rear Admiral Danial Hagari said in a statement.
“I would like to inform you at this late hour that the IDF is currently conducting precision strikes against military targets in Iran. These operations are in response to the Iranian regime’s continued attacks against Israel in recent months and are being carried out under the direction of the political leadership.”
The IDF noted that the strikes are being conducted in response to “relentless attacks” from Iran and its proxies since October 7, adding that Israel has the “right and the duty to respond.”
