NEW DELHI: The ministry of external affairs on Thursday said that the first charter flight will be reaching Tel Aviv later tonight to pick up Indians and is likely to return to India tomorrow morning.
The MEA in a briefing said that Operation Ajay has been launched to bring back Indians from Israel adding that it hasn’t heard of any Indian casualty so far.
“A charter flight will reach Tel Aviv today later in the evening. It is expected to get 230 passengers onboard. We have all options, but the role of IAF (in evacuation) can’t be ruled out,” MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said.
“There is conflict going on and it is a matter of concern. Around 18,000 Indians are in Israel. Indians are advised to follow advisories issued by our mission,” Bagchi added.
The MEA said that about a dozen odd people are there in West Bank while 3-4 people are in Gaza. The number is very small. Requests for rescue have been mostly received from Israel, it added.
While speaking on the unprecedented attacks by Hamas on Israel MEA said that India sees these as terrorist attacks.
“As far as Palestine is concerned, India has advocated the resumption of direct negotations towards establishing the sovereign, independent and viable state of Palestine living within secure and recognised border side by side with Israel,” he added.
