Former US President Donald Trump expressed his support for decriminalizing a small amount of marijuana possession, arguing that arresting individuals for carrying “personal amount” of the substance is a waste of taxpayer money.
Additionally, Trump addressed the issue of fentanyl-laced marijuana, expressing that no one should have to grieve the loss of a loved one due to this dangerous combination.
“We do not need to ruin lives and waste taxpayer dollars arresting adults with personal amounts of it on them, and no one should grieve a loved one because they died from fentanyl laced marijuana,” Trump said.
The former president specifically referred to Amendment 3 in Florida, which aims to legalize the possession and purchase of up to 3 ounces of marijuana for adults over 21 years old.
“In Florida, like so many other states that have already given their approval, personal amounts of marijuana will be legalized for adults with Amendment 3,” said Trump.
“Whether people like it or not, this will happen through the approval of the voters, so it should be done correctly,” Trump said.
The Republican nominee also called upon state legislators to enact laws prohibiting the use of marijuana in public spaces.
Trump also highlighted the different marijuana laws across different states, stating that an individual should not be considered a criminal in one state for an action that is legal in another. Marijuana is legal in some form in nearly 40 states.
