A toddler who was pulled from a backyard swimming pool has died, despite her family’s desperate CPR attempts.
Emergency services were called to a property at Whian Whian, about 25km north of Lismore in northern NSW, about 2.20pm Wednesday, where the child was pulled unresponsive from the water.
Family at the scene had been performing CPR when police arrived.
“Police arrived on scene and rendered assistance until NSW Ambulance paramedics took over,” NSW Police said in a statement.
The girl was rushed to Lismore Base Hospital, but couldn’t be saved.
She’s the fifth person to drown in NSW since Christmas Day on Monday.
Four people were pulled from the water at Port Stephens, also on Wednesday afternoon, including a 33-year-old man who could not be revived.
Seti Tuaopepe, 35-year-old father, drowned at the newly-opened Penrith Beach, also on Wednesday afternoon.
Canadian tourist Ron Brean, 79, died in the surf at Umina Beach on the Central Coast on Monday.
Two others have gone missing in waters off the NSW coast since Christmas Day in separate incidents, and are both presumed to have drowned.
