VARANASI: It was meant to be a political roadshow but the scenario resembled more of a carnival with crowds brimming all along the 5-km route in Varanasi on Monday evening.
All charged up, the supporters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi were seen wearing T-shirts ‘Har Dil Mein Modi’ and ‘Hamar Kashi, Hamar Modi’ written on them prominently.
Houses and shops along the route were illuminated, as the party workers poured in from the neighbouring districts and from all sections of the society to cheer the Prime Minister and be part of the occasion.
In a surprise, a large number of Muslims were present at the dais of BJP Alpsankhyak Morcha and could be heard raising slogans such as ‘Doori hai na khai hai, Modi hamara bhai hai’ (No rift, no distance, Modi is our brother). Not only locals, but people of other states like Maharashtra, Bihar and Jharkhand and neighbouring districts also joined the roadshow, with most of them praising the sincerity and working style of Modi.
Kinnar Mahamandaleshwar Hemangi Sakhi of Nirmohi Akhara, who had announced to contest Lok Sabha election from Varanasi initially under the banner of Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha UP and later as independent, was seen sitting on a dais near Bengalitola Inter College to welcome Modi.
She had withdrawn her plans to contest after BJP leaders had met him recently and assured to make Modi aware about the concerns of transgender people.
