Yemen‘s port city of Hodeidah has been subjected to severe airstrikes targeting oil and diesel storage facilities as well as the local electricity company and the strikes have reportedly resulted in casualties, although specific details were not provided, as per the Al-Masirah TV, a Houthi rebel-controlled media outlet in the state.
The Israeli military has not issued any statement regarding the alleged airstrikes when asked for comment.
A drone attack by Houthi rebels killed one person in central Tel Aviv and injured at least 10 others near the United States Embassy on Friday morning. Since January, US and British forces have been targeting Houthi positions in Yemen in response to the rebels’ attacks on commercial shipping, which they claim are in retaliation for Israel‘s actions in the Gaza war.
However, many of the targeted ships have no connection to Israel. So far, the joint force airstrikes have had little impact on deterring the Iran-backed Houthi rebels.
In a separate incident on Saturday, at least 13 people, including three children and one woman, were killed in three Israeli airstrikes that hit refugee camps in central Gaza overnight, according to Palestinian health officials.
The ongoing war in Gaza, which began with Hamas’ attack on southern Israel on Oct. 7, has claimed more than 38,900 lives, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which does not differentiate between combatants and civilians in its count.
The conflict has created a humanitarian crisis in the coastal Palestinian territory, displacing most of its 2.3 million residents and causing widespread hunger.
The October attack by Hamas killed 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and militants took about 250 hostages, with approximately 120 remaining in captivity and a third of them believed to be dead, according to Israeli authorities.
As per the health officials in the Gaza Strip, the Israel-Hamas war has left thousands of women and children dead.
