Deepinder Goyal, CEO of Zomato, announced the feature’s launch on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Friday.”For Karan and many others – you can now delete orders from your order history on Zomato. Use it responsibly,” Goyal stated, referencing the customer whose request sparked the development.
The feature’s origin traces back to a viral exchange in 2023 when user on X named Karan Singh publicly bid farewell to the platform. Singh cited his inability to delete his order history, which had led to his wife discovering his late-night ordering habits. “Bye bye Zomato or make me delete order history,” Singh had implored at the time.
Zomato’s initial response to Singh’s awkward situation was lighthearted, suggesting he order “when the coast is clear.” However, the company has now taken concrete action to address the underlying issue.
Goyal acknowledged the delay in implementing the feature, explaining that it “touched multiple systems and microservices” and took time to prioritise and build. He assured users that the rollout is currently underway across the platform.
