NEW DELHI: As the diplomatic row with Canada continues to simmer, Speaker of the Canadian Senate, Raymonde Gagne, has pulled out of the Presiding Officers’ Summit of Parliaments of G20 nations, reversing her decision to attend the event that got underway here on Thursday.

Gagne had earlier confirmed her presence at the Parliament-20 meeting chaired by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

Those involved in organising the event were surprised by Gagne’s U-turn, considering that Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, who has put the bilateral ties under strain by rushing out with yet-to-be-substantiated “credible allegations” of “India’s potential link” to the killing of pro-Khalistan activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, did come for the G20 Summit.
