BENGALURU: A fight between two live-in partners, who constantly bickered over the woman’s friendship with other men, turned fatal on Tuesday. The 34-year-old woman allegedly stabbed her 29-year-old lover at a service apartment in Akshayanagar in Hulimavu, off Bannerghatta Road.
The deceased, Javed, had booked the flat on the second floor of a multi-storey building for three days from September 2. He was staying there with Renuka Basavaraju Bandiwaddar alias Rekha Gowda from Belagavi district. Javed, from Kannur in Kerala, worked as a mobile service technician.
Renuka, a BA dropout, has been living in Bengaluru for 15 years. She is unmarried and mother to a six-year-old girl, who was present in the flat when the crime took place, police said.
Citing preliminary investigation, cops said the couple was in a live-in relationship for three-and-a-half years. They had met through common friends at a party in a pub. Javed had introduced Renuka to his family members and taken her to his hometown. Renuka told police they lived in multiple places, including paying guest accommodations, lodges, service apartments and rented houses in east and south Bengaluru.
They developed differences over a few issues, including her friendship with other men, and argued regularly. They fought on Tuesday too, and Renuka stabbed Javed in the chest around 3.15pm, said police.
Building owner Ganesh in his complaint told police that building manager Sunil called him around 3.30pm and informed him something was amiss in flat 202 on the second floor. Ganesh was asked to check in on the tenants.
Ganesh rushed to the flat to find a severely injured Javed lying unconscious on Renuka’s lap. When he asked her what had happened to Javed, she told him it was their personal matter. Ganesh and some others helped Renuka take Javed to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Doctors told Ganesh that someone had stabbed Javed, causing his injuries. Renuka confessed to having stabbed him, and Hulimavu police arrested her.
A senior officer said according to Ganesh, the couple had rented the flat for three days in the name of Riyaz. Renuka is not revealing details of the dispute between her and Javed. “On verifying her mobile phone, we found the couple had fights over Renuka’s friendship with other men,” said police.
The body was handed over to Javed’s family on Wednesday.
