CHENNAI: A prostitution racket, organised in the name of ‘wife swapping’ parties promoted by discreet advertisements in social media portals, was busted by the city police at Panaiyur on East Coast Road (ECR) in Chennai.
Eight people, who had been organising such ‘parties’ for the past eight years in Chennai as well as in tier-two cities like Coimbatore, Madurai, Salem and Erode, were arrested.
Inquiries revealed that the arrested men – Senthil Kumar, Kumar, Chandramohan, Sankar, Velraj, Perarasan, Selvan and Venkateshkumar – targeted the ‘single’ men and introduced some women as their wives. They were then encouraged to swap their partners, in the name of ‘wife swapping.’
An investigation officer said, “The gang created a social media page on wife-swapping and lured the men by charging them anything from ₹13,000 to ₹25,000. The more money they pay, the more women will accompany them at the beach house.”
Besides the eight arrests, the anti-vice squad officials also rescued several women, all aged between 30 and 40 years, early on Monday morning. They were all married women but were lured by big money offered for the swap party.
It was the neighbours who flagged the incident, as they found m en coming to the house in large numbers and the music and booze stretching beyond midnight.
On information, anti-vice squad wing led by inspector NS Kumar stormed into the Panaiyur house, and found middle-aged businessmen staying in separate rooms with women. While eight were arrested, the rescued women were allowed to go with their family members after giving a written undertaking.
All the eight were remanded in judicial custody after they were produced before a magistrate court on Tuesday.
