PATNA: At least six people were injured when a clash broke out during a procession for immersion of Goddess Durga’s idols in Bihar’s Saran district on Friday morning, the third such incident in the past three days.
Keeping in view the prevailing situation, a heavy police force has been deployed at the spot while internet services have been suspended for two days, police said.

Police said the trouble broke out after devotees joining the immersion procession played DJ songs at full blast while passing through the New Bazar locality under Bhagwanpur police station of Chhapra—headquarters in Saran district which was strongly opposed by the people from the other community who reacted by pelting stones at them causing tension in the areas.
Soon after getting the information, senior administrative and police officials accompanied by heavy police force rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Subsequently, the idols of the goddess were carried under heavy security and the immersion process completed.
“Police forces are camping at the spot and we are trying to identify the trouble-makers with the help of video footage,” Saran district superintendent of police Gaurav Mangla told the TOI over phone adding that the police have detained four persons so far.
“We are keeping a close watch on the situation. The situation is tense but under control,” the SP said, adding a few idols of the goddess were yet to be immersed.
This is the third incident of communal tension across the state in the past three days. Prior to this incident, a similar tension was reported from the Obra police station area of Aurangabad district on October 25, prompting the police to conduct flag marches to restore peace in the area. Tension started when some members of the procession allegedly tore apart a religious flag belonging to another community. Acting swiftly, the police arrested three persons.
Tension was also reported from Balia police station area in Begusarai district during the idol immersion procession when the people belonging to two different communities indulged in stone pelting, prompting the police to resort to mild cane charge. Police also arrested around a dozen persons after scanning CCTV footage.
