NEW DELHI: A woman from Darjeeling, West Bengal, was reportedly raped for a week by her friend in Delhi. The friend, named Paras (28), also physically harmed and tortured her by pouring hot dal (lentils). He has been charged with rape, sodomy, and causing harm, and he was arrested on February 2.
The shocking case came to light on January 30 when a PCR call informed the Neb Sarai police station that a woman was being beaten by her husband.A police team rushed to the spot, rescued the woman, and took her to AIIMS. At the time of hospitalization, she had around 20 injury marks on her body. The woman had befriended Paras and was in contact with him for the last 3-4 months. She was supposed to reach Bengaluru in the first week of January for a job as a housemaid.
However, as the days passed, Paras allegedly started physically assaulting and sexually abusing her for a week. In a particularly horrifying incident, he reportedly poured hot dal over her, causing burn injuries.
Following the victim’s complaint, an FIR was registered on January 30 under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 376 (rape), and 377 (sodomy) of the Indian Penal Code. Paras, who hails from Uttarakhand and worked as a cook at an eatery in Delhi, was subsequently arrested.
The police are conducting further investigations into the matter.
