JAIPUR: In her desperation to become the mayor of the city, a 25-year-old woman sought the assistance of a henchman of Lawrence Bishnoi‘s gang to intimidate two prominent doctors in the city to make extortion calls for Rs 50 lakh each from them.
Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph said on Wednesday that a special team arrested four persons, including the woman identified as Kushbu Chelani, who is a resident of Pratap Nagar and a fashion designer with political aspirations.
Additionally, Lawrence Bishnoi’s henchman, Ravinder Singh alias Kali, was arrested and brought to Jaipur from Patiala Jail through a production warrant. Joseph said Chelani had contacted Singh via Instagram and provided information about two prominent doctors in the city who were believed to have the financial capacity to pay the extortion amount. “Chelani gave phone numbers of the two doctors to Singh,” he said.
Chelani told the police that she required money initially to fund her campaign for a councillor position and simply provided phone num bers to Singh.
Besides Chelani and Singh, police also arrested the shooter, Rahul alias Mini Petrol, and his helper, Harsh Bhadu, who helped in carrying out the recce
“The preliminary investigation has revealed that Singh shared the phone numbers of the two doctors with his aides in the UK and USA. These two callers then called Dr Shyam Sunder Agarwal on August 16, and Dr Suneet Shah on August 24,” Joseph said.
He said that the police constituted a team led by additional commissioner of police (crime) Kailash Chandra Bishnoi, which included additional DCP (West) Ram Singh, cyber inspector Chandra Prakash and constable and technical expert Rakesh Kumar Jhaharia.
Bishnoi said an extortion amount of Rs 50 lakh each was sought from both doctors by these two callers based abroad. “We have also identified two callers who demanded extortion from the doctors and a further investigation is underway into the case,” Bishnoi said.
Police discovered that Ravinder Singh is a crucial member of the Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate. “Ravinder Singh alias Kali aided Lawrence in escaping from police custody in 2015. He is a notorious criminal with cases registered against him in Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab,” said additional DCP (West) Ram Singh.
Additionally, he mentioned that Rahul, known as Mini Petrol (21) and hailing from Hanumangarh district, has maintained a significant association with the syndicate.
“Rahul’s uncle and Lawrence Bishnoi’s cousin were fatally shot by Chotu Bhat in Hanumangarh’s Sangaria in 2015. In response, Bishnoi devised a revenge plot with Rahul, resulting in the murder of two of their rivals in 2020 as retribution for the earlier killings,” Singh added.
