NEW DELHI: In a new twist to its investigation against Dubai-based promoters of Mahadev Book app, the ED has opened a probe against Subham Soni, who has identified himself as the promoter of the online betting app and recently claimed to have passed on Rs 508 crore to Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel.
In what could bring fresh trouble for Baghel and his son, the ED has attached an affidavit, submitted by Subham Soni at the Indian consulate in Dubai, in a special court in Raipur with the remand papers of jailed courier Aseem Das.The latter was arrested last week with allegedly Rs 5 crore cash meant as payoffs to “Baghel” from the owners of Mahadev Book app.
The ED is likely to question Soni, who claimed to be operating with Baghel’s blessings and verify the allegation against Chhattisgarh CM and his son based on circumstantial evidence provided by former in his affidavit, sources said.

On Wednesday, the Mumbai police registered an FIR against Soni and 31 others, alleging that the betting syndicate was invoved in a fraud of Rs 15,000 crore. The Mumbai cops have made Soni an accused in the case besides two other promoters of the app, Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal.
The ED had on Friday claimed that Das was sent from Dubai to deliver a cash consignment to “Baghel” and that the promoters had so far paid Rs 508 crore to the CM and his associates, the ED said.
