MUMBAI: A gang of three women and a minor girl, notorious for targeting people in housing societies and robbing them, has been apprehended by the Matunga police in Mumbai. The group gained notoriety after a video of them robbing a senior citizen in an office in Matunga went viral.
According to the police, the incident occurred on October 31 when a teenager, posing as someone in need of water, entered the office of businessman Sanjeev Parekh (63) at Dadar Hindu colony.Once inside, the teenager allowed three other gang members to enter, and they proceeded to confuse the elderly man before making off with Rs 2,000 in cash, a mobile phone, and various small items from his office.
A police officer said that they received a tip-off regarding the suspicious activities of the gang of women captured in the CCTV footage, which led to their arrest. The police, in collaboration with a female constable, set a trap and successfully apprehended the four women, including the minor girl.
Upon further investigation, it was discovered that this gang had previously been arrested for similar offenses in Nehru Nagar in Kurla and Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Marg. Their arrest marks a significant step in curbing their criminal activities.
