NEW DELHI: Rohit Sharma has been in superb touch in the ongoing ODI World Cup in India, scoring close to 400 runs in six matches so far. With a ton and a couple of fifties already to his name, the skipper has given the team perfect starts.
Former India opener Gautam Gambhir on Sunday heaped praise on Rohit, saying that the skipper has led his team from the front.
Not bothering about his personal stats and milestones, Rohit has played selfless cricket and Gambhir hoped that the 36-year-old continues to do the same in the remainder of the tournament.
“Rohit Sharma would have got 40-45 hundreds by now, but he is not obsessed with hundreds. A selfless leader does things himself first before expecting them from his teammates. If you expect positive batting from your team, you have got to do it first as a leader. Rohit has been a superb example of a skipper leading his team from the front. No PR and marketing can do this for you. You have got to do it yourself,” Gambhir said on Star Sports.
“Rohit has led his team from the front in this World Cup. He might be 10th or 12th in terms of runs but that doesn’t matter. Lifting that trophy on 19th November should be your goal. The way Rohit has batted in this World Cup, I hope he bats the same way in upcoming matches,” Gambhir added.
