NEW DELHI: Tihar administration on Sunday stated that senior AIIMS specialists had provided online consultation to chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, hours after AAP alleged that adequate medical facilities were not being given to him as part of a “conspiracy” by Centre to kill him.
A statement released by Tihar authorities said, “After a detailed consultation, Kejriwal was assured there were no serious concerns. He was advised to continue with prescribed medicines, which would be evaluated and reviewed on a regular basis”.
The statement was issued on a day when senior AAP functionaries and workers protested outside the prison even as Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj highlighted a letter sent by Tihar Jail’s director-general a day earlier, requesting AIIMS for a diabetologist.
Bharadwaj said this contradicted the central govt and Tihar’s claims of adequate medical provisions being available inside the jail for Kejriwal.
The statement by Tihar administration claimed that “the issue of insulin was neither raised by Kejriwal nor was it suggested by doctors during the consultation”.

CM Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday had a video consultation with a senior specialist from AIIMS, while resident medical officers of Tihar were also present. The consultation, which lasted around 40 minutes, was organised on the request of his wife, Sunita.
“The senior specialist from AIIMS asked for and was provided with a complete record of the CGM (glucose monitoring sensor) and details of the diet and medicines being taken by Kejriwal,” the statement further said, adding that regular monitoring of sugar levels was underway.
Tihar authorities had on April 20 written a letter to the director of AIIMS to appoint a senior endocrinologist or diabetologist for consultation on CM’s blood sugar and insulin dependency.
Earlier in the day, Bharadwaj said: “DG of Tihar yesterday wrote to AIIMS that they needed a diabetologist. Today, BJP govt has been exposed in front of everyone. Until yesterday, they were saying that they have all specialists and facilities.”
Bharadwaj accused central govt of conspiring to kill CM by denying him adequate medical treatment inside Tihar jail. Stating that organ failure was very common if a patient was not given proper treatment, he alleged: “It is a conspiracy to finish Kejriwal so that when he comes out of jail after 2-4 months, he has to go for treatment for heart and other organs.”
Bharadwaj claimed the report issued by jail administration was not correct and that random sugar measurements had no meaning. He added: “If the sugar report issued by Arvind Kejriwal is wrong, then Centre and jail administration should speak in front of media. Centre and jail administration are deliberately hiding Kejriwal’s sugar report.”
Upping the ante, cabinet minister Atishi and MLA Sanjeev Jha were among those who protested outside Tihar, carrying placards reading “Kejriwal ko insulin do”. They also sang ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’.
Atishi said: “This is not a protest. The people of Delhi are worried about the health of CM Kejriwal, who is diabetic. They have sent insulin for him.” She reiterated her claims that there was a “conspiracy” to harm Kejriwal.
Hitting back, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said AAP was “creating drama”. “AAP’s only political hope today is to create public sympathy over the health of Arvind Kejriwal. No doubt, Kejriwal is a diabetic, but his sugar is under control in jail as he didn’t raise a demand for insulin in the video consultation with the doctors of AIIMS and RML,” he said. “Delhiites have made up their mind to reject the corrupt AAP-Congress alliance in Delhi,” he added.
