NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday took a dig at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge‘s remarks “Is bar 400 paar ho raha hai (this time you are claiming to cross 400 seats)” and wondered how the Congress president could muster courage to speak the truth. The Prime Minister also took a swipe at Rahul Gandhi.
“I could not say it that day but I express my special gratitude to Kharge ji.I was listening to him with great attention and enjoyment that day. The lack of entertainment that we were missing in Lok Sabha, as the person who entertained us is on a different duty, was fulfilled by him,” PM Modi said.
“Mallikarjun Kharge ji spoke in Rajya Sabha for a long time and I was thinking how he got the chance to speak for such a long time and then I realised that two special commanders around him were not there so he took advantage of it,” PM Modi said possibly referring to the absence of Sonia and Rahul from the House when Kharge was speaking.
“Ek baat khushi ki rahi, unhone (Kharge) jo 400 seat NDA ke liye aashirwad diya hai … aapke aashirwad mere sar aankhon par,” the Prime Minister said. “Kharge ji thought aisa mauka phir kahan milega (I will not get such an opportunity) and scored fours & sixes,” he added.
Mallikarjun Kharge in his speech had sarcastically referred to BJP’s election slogan of “abki baar 400 par,” which was lapped up by the ruling party to say that Kharge had accepted that the BJP will win 400 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Amid laughter by the ruling benches led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kharge went on to say that the BJP will not surpass 100 seats in these elections.
PM Modi also took a swipe at Congress’s election prospects and cited Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee’s recent statement that the Congress may not cross 40 seats in upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
“I pray that you keep 40 seats with you,” he said taking jibe at Kharge.
