Police are investigating the death of a woman in a suspected accident at a Western Australian train station on Friday night.

Police were called to Albany Railway Station in southern WA after reports of three people on a platform standing next to a stationary commercial train.

While officers were en route, they received further reports that a woman was in distress after she had become trapped in the engine carriage.

WA Police said that she was unresponsive when officers arrived. Despite efforts to free the woman, she could not be revived.

Police are treating the incident as a suspected accident.

“Albany Detectives attended the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death,” WA Police said in a statement.

“The woman’s death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.”
