GURDASPUR: A sports fair held in Punjab’s Sarchur village within the Fatehgarh Churian constituency turned tragic with a stuntman meeting a fatal accident as he was crushed beneath the tractor’s wheels while attempting a high-risk stunt.
The unfortunate incident occurred on Sunday evening when Sukhmandeep Singh, hailing from Thathe village, lost his balance while trying to mount the tractor’s tires, which suddenly revved up and started moving.
Sukhmandeep sustained severe injuries in the accident and tragically succumbed to them en route to the hospital.
Gurdaspur deputy commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal reported, “A private fair was organized and a tractor stuntman injured himself while trying to control a tractor. He lost his life on his way to the hospital. The organizers of such fairs typically seek permission for loudspeakers during the festive season.”
Aggarwal went on to mention that he had contacted the local police officials, who were making efforts to reach out to the deceased stuntman’s family.
He emphasized the need for stricter regulations, stating, “I have directed all the sub-divisional magistrates of the districts to grant permission for such fairs only after thorough scrutiny. They must ensure that stunt performers are professionals who have taken appropriate safety measures.”
Furthermore, the deputy commissioner has instructed the Fatehgarh Churian SDM to provide a comprehensive report within a week.
