NEW DELHI: Police in southeast Delhi’s Govindpuri area arrested an accused and his three associates, who were wanted in connection with a robbery.
The identification of the accused was made possible due to a distinctive ‘trishul’ tattoo on his left forearm, according to officials.
The arrests were made on Thursday.
On October 26, an incident occurred at the office of an event management firm.
Four individuals entered the office and used a “toy gun” to rob the firm’s manager while he and his team were in the process of preparing for an event trip to Uttarakhand, as reported.
The main suspect, Vipul (aged 36), had a motive for revenge against the firm’s owner.
This retaliation stemmed from an incident where the owner had posted a picture on social media featuring a female member of his team, with whom Vipul had been in a romantic relationship, PTI quoted deputy commissioner of police (southeast) Rajesh Deo as saying.
The remaining suspects have been identified as Jaivardhan (aged 36), Vijay (aged 34), and Sumit (aged 30).
They all hail from Modinagar, Uttar Pradesh.
According to the firm’s owner’s complaint, a group of four individuals entered the office, forcibly taking one mobile phone, Rs 14,000 in cash, and two gold rings from a female member of his team.
Additionally, they subjected him to physical assault during the robbery.
The police reported that the accused individuals demanded additional cash from the victims, prompting the complainant to contact his wife.
Subsequently, two of the accused individuals went to the complainant’s residence in Faridabad, located in the state of Haryana, and collected Rs 70,000 from his wife, as stated by the police.
Following this, the suspects fled the scene.
The officer mentioned that the complainant disclosed that one of the accused had a ‘trishul’ tattoo on his left forearm.
This detail was instrumental in identifying the suspect.
Additionally, the police discovered that the accused individuals had employed a car with a counterfeit number plate to carry out the crime.
They further mentioned that they reviewed CCTV footage, leading to the identification of the car used in the criminal act.
DCP Deo stated that one of the accused, recognized by the ‘trishul’ tattoo on his forearm, was subsequently identified as Vipul.
He mentioned that Vipul had been staying at a hotel in the Mahipalpur area, and it was there that he was apprehended by the authorities.
The officer went on to explain that Vipul’s associates were also apprehended in due course.
Furthermore, the car employed in the commission of the crime and the toy pistol were successfully recovered by the police.
According to the police, the initial investigation indicates that the robbers had access to insider information regarding the firm’s office and its employees.
