BHOPAL: Police have registered a case against two men who tied up six stray dogs, stuffed them into sacks and were going to drown them in a river in MP’s Satna. Police took action on Friday night after a video popped up on social media.
The video shows a group of men rescuing the dogs on a rainswept bridge. They pull the strays out of sacks, untie the ropes that tie their muzzles and limbs and set them free.
Police say the accused — Nandu Banshkar and Pradeep Banshkar – planned to throw the dogs off the bridge into the swollen Satna river.
According to sources, Nandu and Pradeep drove to the bridge on Satna-Maihar road in an e-rickshaw around 11am on Friday.
Local residents Parimal Tripathi and Brijesh Yadav were driving by on a motorcycle when they heard muffled noises coming from half a dozen sacks that were on the vehicle. Whatever was in the sacks was squirming about.
They stopped and questioned the e-rickshaw driver, who was evasive. Suspecting something, they opened one of the sacks and found a trussed-up dog. They rescued all six dogs and took a video, which was uploaded on social media.
“The accused had brought six dogs. They have said that they were annoyed by strays in their Bajraha Tola locality and were scared that the animals could harm residents, so they tried to take an extreme step,” Satna SP Ashutosh Gupta said.
Police registered a case against Nandu and Pradeep under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and BNS.
