NEW DELHI: Not only one of the best batters of his time, Virat Kohli is also the epitome of sportsmanship which have been witnessed on numerous occasions on the field.
And Steve Smith highlighted one of the incidents and spoke highly of Kohli when the former India skipper urged the crowds to show respect for the former Australian skipper instead of booing him.The incident took place during the India-Australia match in 2019 ODI World Cup at The Oval in London when the Indian fans started jeering Smith as he had made his comeback to international cricket following a one-year suspension for ball-tampering.
“It was a very nice moment from Kohli in the 2019 World Cup, crowd was booing me & he told the crowd to just support him. What is wrong with him. That was great from Virat, really appreciate it,” Smith said on Star Sports.
Smith also heaped praise on Kohli saying that the Indian star always steps up when the team needs him the most.
“Virat Kohli is an incredible player. He always step up and delivered in big games. He has done it again and again for India in big games – there are not many bigger players than Kohli,” Smith added.

Earlier, Kohli had bestowed high praise upon the Smith, acknowledging him as the finest Test batter of their generation. Kohli’s admiration for Smith stems from his remarkable consistency and the “unbelievable” average at which he consistently scores runs.
“According to me, Steve Smith is the best Test player of this generation. He has displayed that, his adaptability is absolutely brilliant. You take any cricketer of this generation,” Kohli said.
