Several customers across the country faced UPI connectivity problems on Tuesday. NPCI later confirmed the same and said that the disruption faced by some users was due to technical issues faced by some banks.
“Regret inconvenience on UPI connectivity as few of the banks are having some internal technical issues. NPCI systems are working fine and we are working with these banks to ensure quick resolution,” the NPCI said on X, formerly Twitter.

Late Tuesday (February 6), several UPI users across India took to social media to complain about the lack of service as their payments failed to go through. These issues were faced by customers using all the popular UPI apps including PhonePe, Google Pay and Bhim.
A customer using UPI on a merchant app got the message that HDFC Bank was facing high failure among all UPI apps. Customers with accounts in SBI, Kotak Bank and Bank of Baroda also reported problems in transactions.
Many linked the UPI glitch to the ongoing Paytm problems, however, bankers said that the downtime had nothing to do with the regulatory issues faced by Paytm.
Largest private sector lender HDFC Bank admitted its customers were among those impacted.
In response to some customers, HDFC Bank said it faced “some difficulties on UPI which seems to be part of a larger ecosystem”, but was quick to add that it is now back in operations.
UPI transactions hit record number in January 2024
Earlier this month, NPCI reported that UPI transactions in the country hit a new record in January 2024. UP transactions reached a record Rs 18.41 trillion in January 2024 as per NPCI data. The PMO account on X too posted the new record.
