NAGPUR: Countering Congress’ opposition to the use of word ‘Bharat’ by President Draupadi Murmu, BJP Maharashtra president Chandrashekar Bawankule on Wednesday questioned MP Rahul Gandhi on why he had then named his famed rally as ‘Bharat Jodo yatra’.
“If Gandhis oppose the word ‘Bharat’, they should not use it in their campaigns. They want to carry on with the western legacy, which suits them. The entire nation wants to follow Hindu culture and tradition at work. The word ‘Bharat’ is in the blood and heart of all. From children to elders, we proudly say ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ to show our patriotism. The British coined the word ‘India’ for their convenience. Therefore, Bharat must replace India.”
Launching a scathing attack on Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, who had demanded deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis’ resignation for the Jalna lathi charge incident, Bawankule said the former should first tender an apology to the Maratha community for failing to maintain the reservation which was provided to them by then BJP-Sena government under Fadnavis himself.
“Thackeray has no right to demand anyone’s resignation, as he himself along with his coterie of ministers was responsible for the Maratha reservation fiasco. He used to run the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government on Facebook live. In his entire tenure of two and half years, Thackeray did not even sign on the letters of his own MLAs.”
Bawankule claimed that Uddhav Thackeray wanted Eknath Shinde and others to leave Sena because his motive was to make his son Aditya the president of the party. “For his entire tenure, Uddhav limited himself to his son and family without caring for the people of Maharashtra. His MPs and MLAs did not have entry into Matoshree. Eventually, the partymen became apprehensive of losing out to Congress and NCP and so they left him,” said Bawankule.
