A major criminal investigation has begun after a young woman’s body was discovered near Brisbane in the aftermath of a grass fire.
At about 6am on Friday, firefighters were called to extinguish a blaze at a BMX track in Browns Plains in Logan, where the woman’s charred body was found.
Detective Inspector Chris Knight would not say whether the identity of the woman was known and confirmed investigators were “considering a number” of circumstances surrounding the incident.
“We most certainly are not saying that it’s homicide, it is simply an unexplained death at this moment in time,” he told reporter.
“We hope to get clarity around that as quickly as we can, for all those involved.”
The track, now an active crime scene, remains closed to the public.
A large police presence remains at the scene while an investigation has been launched into the “sudden” and “unexplained death”.
Police have urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
