NEW DELHI: Urging people to vote back the Congress, party president Mallikarjun Kharge Friday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah have begun touring Chhattisgarh “to vitiate the atmosphere in the state”, but people should ignore their claims and select the Congress on its performance.
He said there was no corruption during Bhupesh Baghel’s tenure, but the PM is calling the state government “30% sarkar” just to get back at the Congress for exposing the BJP regime in Karnataka as “40% sarkar” and ousting it from power few months ago.He said Baghel government fulfilled the promises made by the Congress during 2018 elections, which is a major achievement since the BJP and PM Modi have not fulfilled any of their promises.
The Congress leader, addressing rallies in Raipur and Janjgir-Champa, said if voted back to power, the party government will implement farm loan waiver, free “KG to PG” education, Rs 500 cylinder, free power up to 200 units.
Targetting the PM, Kharge said Modi used to claim that he was an OBC to garner sympathy and votes, but CM Baghel as well as Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot are from the backward community. “Why do you keep harping on the OBC issue,” he asked.
“What Modi as CM could not do in Gujarat in 13.5 years, we have done in Chhattisgarh in five years. I just want to tell you (voters) that don’t be misled by the PM. A person from the backward classes (Baghel) understands the pain of backwards, Dalits, farmers. You should vote for a person who feels the pain of the poor and the common man.”
Kharge said PM Modi has opened a “factory of abuses” and spends his time speaking ill of his political rivals, while Congress opened factories after the independence which are serving the country till date.
