NAVI MUMBAI: The Navi Mumbai police have registered a case against a 25-year-old man for allegedly raping and threatening a woman whom he had befriended through a mobile chat application, police said.
According to an official statement released on Thursday, the accused, Navnath Kade, hailing from Beed district, allegedly developed a rapport with the 23-year-old woman by engaging in conversations with her on the mobile app.Subsequently, Kade suggested meeting in person.
Reportedly, Kade took the woman, who resides in Panvel, to Nashik and his residence in Beed, where the alleged sexual assault took place. The woman further claimed that Kade forcibly married her, subjected her to physical abuse, and later posted their private photos on Instagram.
The alleged crimes were committed between June and August of this year, the official said.
On Wednesday, the Navi Mumbai police registered a case against Kade under pertinent sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 376 (related to rape) and Section 504 (related to criminal intimidation).
Since the alleged offenses were committed in Beed, the case has been transferred to the Peth police station located there, according to the official’s information.
