The Indian car market has grown into the third largest in the world and today we have both domestic and foreign car brands competing for a piece of the game. However, while the South Korean brands have clearly captured the audience, some car brands have not been that successful. In particular, American car brands like Chevrolet and Ford had long stints in the country but could not survive or capture a big chunk of the market.Nevertheless, Indian car enthusiasts have for generations appreciated several American cars and here are five iconic models that we can’t forget

GM Hummer H2

1. General Motors Hummer:
The Hummer was the world-famous civilian version of the Humvee 4×4 used by the US Army. It was produced between 1992 to 2009 and several H2 versions of the SUV were imported into India by celebrities like Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Mika Singh and more. Several of the H2 Hummers imported into the country are still plying on Indian roads.

4. Chrysler 1928:
While the Chrysler 1928 was never launched in India, some examples of the big American luxury saloon had been imported into the country decades ago. We have seen some of these cars in old and iconic Hindi movies and very few have ever been restored.

5. Jeep Wrangler:
Another American icon, the Wrangler is what the Willys MB eventually evolved into. In 2019, Jeep India launched the SUV as a CBU and later shifted to local production in 2021. It is the only American SUV on this list, which is still on retail in the country.
The last car on the list is also the only one still on sale in India, it is not only the Wrangler but the Jeep brand itself has been fairly successful in the Indian market and currently has a portfolio of four SUVs from the compact SUV to the high-end segment. Jeep also has long-term plans to stay in India and we can expect this enthusiast offering from the American car brand to continue to cater to Indians for years to come.
